  2. Monumental Retro Avant Garde

Live essential work of Laibach...their real musical testament ... some make some reinterpretations more interesting pieces such as Le privilege des Morts! Futurist Project!! Now we expect maybe even the release on DVD of the concert.

  3. Expectations fulfilled

I attended a concert at Iron Sky premiere screening in Ljubljana. Frankly, I don't follow their work closely so I expected them playing a live soundrack along the movie. But I got something completely different; I liked the first part (was hooked by "Mi kujemo bodočnost"), was bored in between and was excited again at the very end (Ballad of A Thin Man). In weeks that followed I did some research what I had listened to and found out that I am actually looking for Laibach Revisited project. I was dissapointed because I couldn't get any official CD, but only some low quality recordings on youtube. When I found a live CD from Tate Modern on their WTC, I didn't hesitate long, in spite of high price. I don't regret buying it, even that I play only first disc most of the time. While playing it almost every day at work (copied the album to mp3) I am desperately waiting for a long awaited Laibach Revisited album...

  4. A fantastic release

Monumental Retro-Avant-Garde, is just stunning. The production, atmosphere and music is fantastic. New take on old songs, this just gets better on every listen. Great packaging, if you enjoy Laibach's music (if not why are you here?) this is a MUST buy recording.

  5. Quite possibly Laibach's best release so far

Posted by Volo on 1st Aug 2012

Having attended a concert with similar sounds a bit over a year ago, I was awaiting this 2CD rather enthusiasticly and ordered it as soon as I got notice about it being released, though after listening to the rather poorly mastered Dead in Trblovje I had my doubts whether a Laibach live album would be as good as a concert. I have to admit that I haven't listened to Monumental Retro-Avant-Garde but a few times yet, it is the most flawless combination of noise and industrial I've ever heard. The first side is just so musically brilliant and emotionally strong, that it's not hard to imagine a totalitarian rally in its vein. Although I regard WAT as one of my favourite albums, songs from it don't seem to gain much from the live aspect - maybe the album is slightly overproduced and subtle in it's sounds. But otherwise the second half is good, and the WAT songs are by no means bad. The cover at the end is a really surprising take but something I wouldn't have liked missing.

  6. Apogeus

The "monumental retro-avant-garde" title fits actually perfectly. For this CD, Laibach took a lot of old songs, put them on the table, took a hammer and smash them. In order to reinvent their creations and propose incredible reinterpretations.
An astonishing product, with great packaging and production. This MRAG is clearly in the top 3 of Laibach's albums.
