Economic crisis is a situation in which the economy of a country experiences a sudden downturn brought on by a financial crisis. An economy facing an economic crisis will most likely experience a falling GDP, a drying up of liquidity and rising/falling prices due to inflation/deflation. An economic crisis can take the form of a recession or a depression. The current financial crisis is the worst the world has seen since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Following the Wall Street Crash of 1929, the German economy, like those of many other western nations, suffered the effects of the Great Depression, with unemployment soaring. To deal with the massive unemployment and economic paralysis of the Great Depression, both the US and German governments launched innovative and ambitious programs. Hitler became Chancellor in 1933, he introduced new efforts to improve Germany's economy, including autarky – discouraging most trade with other nations and emphasizing economic self-sufficiency – and a radical extension of the Autobahn system founded in the late years of the Weimar Republic. President Franklin Roosevelt’s “New Deal” measures helped only marginally, but the Third Reich’s much more focused and comprehensive policies proved remarkably effective. Within three years unemployment was banished and Germany’s economy was flourishing.

The Economy is Dead / Wirtschaft ist tot! is a title of a Laibach track/single/video from 1992 Kapital album (Mute Records). The slogan is printed on a front of the T-shirt, along with Marx's famous head statue from Chemnitz (previously Karl Marx Stadt). At the back there is another familiar Laibach slogan (THINK NEGATIVE). The name of the group and the name of the 92' album (Kapital) are printed on the left sleeve.
