The original Bomardierung poster was made for Laibach's first solo tour of the Federal Republic of Germany from 17 November to 6 December 1985 (with stops in Munich, Aachen, Hamburg, Berlin, Wiesbaden, Oberhausen, and Cologne). It provoked much outrage among both left-wing and right-wing audiences, and some performances were threatened by protests.
Leftists and rightists were appalled by the militant motif – uniformed members of the group are deployed in monolithic formation, and military bombers are humming above them. The title of the poster promised “The First Bombardment – Laibach over Germany,” which was, understandably, an unpopular topic for Germans after World War II. The title, however, also provoked a great deal of ridicule from attentive readers because an error had ‘crept’ into it. The word Bombardierung (bombardment) is misspelled, the letter 'b' is missing. Laibach made the mistake unintentionally, but then deliberately kept it. The planes are taken from a World War II photograph showing German bombers over London. Members of the group are actually dressed in Yugoslav military uniforms, which consequently drastically changes the intonation of the poster.
