METAL WORKER, 1980/2017

This was one of the first three posters produced by the group. The inspiration for Metal Worker (alias The Thrower) was the motif of a worker from a Yugoslav propaganda poster from the period of socialist realism, and together with the posters Laibach and Danse Macabre (alias Tarquin and Lucretia) it forms an authentic trilogy. In Laibach's interpretation, the original character of the worker – the hero of socialist labour – is simplified to only a black ‘suprematist’ surface. As a leitmotif, Metal Worker became something like Laibach's Mona Lisa, but only as a one-dimensional figure without a face and a smile.
